Quick and Easy Diwali Recipes

Diwali is one of the most popular festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains all over the world. It’s a celebration  of good versus evil and known as the The Festival of Light. At this happy time, many households will cook up a feast with snacks, delicious meals and desserts. I’ve rounded up some of my quick and easy diwali recipes for you to try. I hope you like them.

What Diwali means to me

Growing up I used to enjoy hearing about the story of Ram and Sita from my granny and family. Whilst at school, I particularly enjoyed the creative activities, like colouring in rangoli patterns or painting fireworks.

For me however, more than religion, the celebration of Diwali is about enjoying quality time with my family, attending firework displays and eating lovely home-cooked food. I really look forward to this time of the year as it brings with it a series of change and excitement, from Autumn days, to Halloween, Guy Fawkes, Diwali, Christmas and lastly New Year celebrations. After all, what is life all about, if we don’t celebrate and enjoy these annual milestones with people we care about?!

Growing up, I’ve been accustomed to particular Diwali-type foods at this time of year and only really eat these fried, indulgent foods during festivities like this. Therefore most of these foods really are for special occasions only (in my opinion).

In preparing my diwali foods, I had some help from my mum and mother-in-law, as some recipes are quite traditional and not what I’d usually cook. One thing I will say though, is home-made is always the best and you can certainly tell the difference with shop-bought foods. So actually in the grand scheme of things, an annual cookathon for these diwali foods, is not a bad shout when you have a few helping hands.
